Chris Pratt appears to be teasing something new for The Super Mario Bros. Movie after the major box office success.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie has grossed over $1 billion at the box office, becoming the third-highest-grossing animated movie of all time behind The Lion King remake and Frozen 2.
Now, it seems that there could be more on the way as Chris Pratt, the voice of Mario in the film, has teased.
“We’re in the midst of this writers’ strike, and so everything has been paused and put on hold for the right reasons,” mentioned Pratt when asked about a Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel by Entertainment Tonight Online’s Rachael Smith.
“I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.”
“We’re so grateful for the support, though. It’s really shocking to me how successful that movie has been. I mean, I expected that people would love it the way I was excited about it, but it’s truly multigenerational around the world. People love it. They love Mario… It’s a really fun, funny, cute, heartwarming movie and, God, I can’t believe I’m part of it.”
The strike in question is the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which started on May 2. Whenever an agreement is reached and work continues, it seems that there’s at least discussions to be had regarding The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Considering the box office success, a sequel might not be out of the question, but nothing has been confirmed.
