LEGO Group plans huge expansion into Hungary

The LEGO Group is planning a multi-million pound expansion into Hungary over the next few years.

After great success in sales over the last year, with a 20% increase in the region, the LEGO Group has decided to expand further into Hungary. The plan includes a HUF 53 billion investment, the equivalent of just under £130 million.

The funds will go towards a huge manufacturing expansion at its base in Nyíregyháza, resulting in an estimated 50% increase in injection molding capacity and a 30% rise in packaging capacity. Construction should be completed by 2023.

The new manufacturing plant will be the second largest LEGO base in the world. It will also result in 250 more jobs for people in the area. The Hungarian government is supporting the investment with HUF 5.85 billion grant, roughly £14 million.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, said that investments by leading international businesses like the LEGO Group prove that Hungary is providing an excellent environment for high-quality production. He also attributed the success to the country’s swift and effective vaccination programme, which Szijjártó is keen to capitalise on for the good of the country.
